What is Otiya?

Otiya is a platform for live quizzes, Play online, prize draws, Solo Play and Otiya Kids. For live quizzes, a host picks or builds a quiz and shares the room by QR code, shared link or game code. Players answer together in real time and can finish on the Otiya podium. The name comes from the Yoruba "ó ti yá", meaning it's time. Yoruba is a language spoken by tens of millions of people, mainly in southwestern Nigeria and parts of Benin and Togo.

Is Otiya free?

Players never pay to join. During beta the Free plan covers up to 50 participants per live quiz session and up to 50 entrants per raffle draw. Otiya Kids is free for family use. Schools use Otiya for Schools, which is free during the school beta.

Do I need an account?

Not to play. Anyone can join a game or play a template instantly. You only need a free account to create, save and host your own quizzes.

What is Play online?

Play online lets you play against other people without hosting anything: a fresh Daily challenge every day with country and world rankings, the Sunday Showdown every Sunday evening, challenge links you can send to anyone, and live games against friends where you both get the same five questions at the same moment. Open it at JoinOtiya.com/play.

Who can play online?

Adults can play as a guest with just a username and no email. With a free account (for adults, 18 and over) you can play from any device. Other players only ever see your username. Play online is not shown in Otiya Kids or in school workspaces.

Can I play without the internet?

Play online needs a connection. Solo Play works offline once otiya has opened on your device: tap "No internet? Play solo offline" on the home page and pick any template.

How do I suggest a new quiz topic?

Open Play online, find "What should we add next?" and tap Suggest or vote. Type a topic, or give a thumbs up to the ones you would play. The most wanted go to the top of our list.

Can young children play?

Yes. Otiya Kids is built for ages 3 to 12. There are read-aloud early learning games for ages 3 to 5, and 10 learning topics and activities for ages 6 to 12. A grown-up runs shared-device play, and games can mix normal quiz questions with picture choice, listening, matching and sequencing activities.

What support features are in Otiya Kids?

Each child can have a Play Profile with read aloud, clearer wording, visual support, two to four answer choices, larger text, more time or no timer, quieter sound, reduced motion and optional score hiding. Children can use different support while staying in the same game.

Can Otiya Kids support different learning or communication needs?

Yes, by adapting participation rather than asking for a diagnosis. A grown-up can choose what helps each child, and the same underlying question can be presented in different ways. Otiya does not diagnose, assess or label a child.

Does Otiya Kids work offline?

Yes, once it has opened on the device with a connection. After that, every Otiya Kids topic plays without the internet, in the browser or as an app added to the home screen, so it is ready for journeys and places without Wi-Fi. Read-aloud uses the voices on the device. Live games, otiya AI and signing in need a connection.

Does Otiya Kids collect anything about my child?

Otiya does not receive the child's name, age band, avatar, answers, score or shared-device Play Profile. Those stay on the grown-up's device. Otiya does send small anonymous product-usage events, such as a game starting or completing, the chosen pack, solo/group mode, participant count and rounds, so we can understand whether Kids is working. Those events contain no child identifier.

Can we play remotely?

Yes. Share your screen on Zoom, Google Meet, Teams or any call, and everyone answers on their own device wherever they are.

How many people can play at once?

During beta, Free supports up to 50 live quiz players. Starter supports up to 100, Pro up to 200 and Team up to 300. For larger groups, speak to us. Raffle limits are shown separately on the pricing page.

How does scoring work?

In a standard game, a correct answer earns 500 points plus up to 500 more for answering quickly. With accuracy first, the default for Inclusive Live and school classes, every correct answer earns 1000 points however long it takes. In both, two or more correct answers in a row add a streak bonus of 100 points for each answer in the run after the first, up to 500. Double questions double the base points, and polls and no-points questions score nothing.

Can a game finish without a ranking?

Yes. Choose Celebrate together in host setup. The room works towards one shared score, nobody sees a position, and the finish shows the room score with everyone's name. Each player still sees their own points. It is chosen for you when Inclusive Live is on.

Can the answers be pictures?

Yes. In Quiz Studio, any answer in a multiple choice question or poll can have a picture, with or without words. Players tap the picture they think is right, which helps children who are still learning to read and anyone learning a language.

Can we play the same quiz again?

Yes. On the results screen, Play again, new order runs the same questions in a different order with the answers shuffled. Everyone stays in the room with the same game code, so nobody has to join again.

Why is a template different every time?

Every template holds a deep pool of verified questions and each game draws a fresh random mix, so a category stays fun on the fifth play.

Can I bring my quizzes from Kahoot, Quizizz, Blooket or Gimkit?

Yes. Export the quiz as a spreadsheet from that tool, then choose Import existing questions in Quiz Studio and Otiya maps the columns for you. Word and text question banks work too. Your file is read in your browser and is never uploaded.

Does Otiya collect pupils' names?

No pupil needs an account. Players join with a nickname, and in schools we ask pupils to use their initials or a nickname rather than their full name. Class reports keep class totals, not a list of pupils.

Does Otiya message parents?

No. In a school workspace a teacher can prepare a short class summary for parents and send it through their own WhatsApp group or email. It never includes a child's name or score, and Otiya does not send or keep it.

I think a question or answer is wrong

Every question shows a "Report this question" link when the answer is revealed. One tap sends us the details and we review every report.

What is the raffle for?

Paste a list of names, choose how many winners, and Otiya draws them on screen with a wheel, a reel, cards or a drum roll. Handy for prizes at the end of a quiz.

What will plans cost?

The plans are Free, Starter, Pro and Team. Prices will be shared when each plan opens, so tap Notify me on the plans page to hear first. Schools use Otiya for Schools, free during the school beta.

Will you store my card?

There is no payment form anywhere in Otiya today, so there is nothing to store. When billing arrives it will run through an established payment provider and card details will never touch our servers.

What about refunds?

Nothing is charged today, so there is nothing to refund. When plans launch, you will be able to cancel at any time, access will run to the end of the period you have covered, and we will review any accidental charge case by case.

Where are my quizzes saved?

Personal quizzes are saved in your Otiya account and follow you to any device you log in on. Quizzes saved to a workspace or school live there, so your team can use them.
